Two-Year Training Programme to Strengthen Africa’s Health Security

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has launched the African Epidemic Service (AES) Fellowship Programme. This two-year initiative aims to train public health professionals in epidemiology, laboratory leadership, and public health informatics to improve disease response across Africa. Applications are now open for qualified candidates.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has announced the launch of the African Epidemic Service (AES) Fellowship Programme, a two-year training initiative designed to build Africa’s capacity for disease prevention and response.

The programme offers three specialised tracks:

  • Epidemiology Track: Focuses on identifying, tracking, and controlling disease outbreaks.
  • Laboratory Leadership Track: Equips professionals with skills to improve disease detection and diagnostics.
  • Public Health Informatics Track: Trains experts in data-driven approaches to health security.

The fellowship is open to African health professionals committed to strengthening public health systems. Selected participants will receive hands-on training, mentorship, and field experience across African Union member states.

This initiative is part of Africa CDC’s strategy to develop a skilled workforce capable of responding to health crises and strengthening the continent’s disease surveillance systems.
