Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has vowed to end all criminal safe havens by officially relaunching the Delta State Security Trust Fund (DSTF). The move is backed by significant private sector funding, including a massive ₦10 billion donation, to boost security infrastructure and maintain peace and economic prosperity across the state.

No Hiding Place for Criminals

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has sent a strong message to criminals: there will be “no safe haven” in Delta State. The Governor made this firm declaration while relaunching the Delta State Security Trust Fund (DSTF) in Asaba. This initiative is designed to strengthen security through a powerful public-private partnership (PPP).

The Governor emphasised that true progress and economic growth cannot happen without safety, stating that the fund symbolises a joint commitment to sustaining peace and attracting investors.

Major Private Sector Backing

The relaunch was a significant event, drawing top business and community leaders, showing massive confidence in the state’s security push.

  • Landmark Donation: High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), through his company, Tantita Security Services Limited, made a staggering donation of ₦10 billion as the Chief Launcher.
  • Top Financial Leaders: The event was chaired by Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede (Group Chairman of Access Holdings Plc), who praised the Governor’s pragmatic leadership and personally contributed ₦100 million. Mr. Jim Ovia (Zenith Bank Founder) also attended, commending the visionary approach to security.

The Governor confirmed that his administration is already dedicating 0.5 per cent of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) monthly to the fund.

Focus on Infrastructure and Strategy

The DSTF, originally established in 2013, will now mobilise resources to focus on critical areas:

  1. Equipment: Procuring surveillance gadgets, operational vehicles, and modern communication systems.
  2. Training: Training and retraining security operatives and community-based vigilante groups across all 25 local government areas.

Governor Oborevwori also announced that the state’s multi-agency task force, formerly known as Operation Delta Hawk, has been restructured and renamed Operation Delta Sweep. He noted that his administration is tackling the root causes of crime through youth empowerment and agricultural programmes to foster employment and stability.
