Empowering Rural Youths and Women to Boost Food Security and Job Creation

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises in the Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) have inaugurated multi-million naira agricultural projects in Delta State. This initiative aims to empower rural youths and women, enhancing food security and creating job opportunities in the region.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), in collaboration with the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises in the Niger Delta (LIFE-ND), has launched multi-million naira agricultural projects in Delta State. This initiative is part of a broader programme involving the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and IFAD, aiming to ensure food security by empowering women and youths in rural communities across the Niger Delta region.

The LIFE-ND project focuses on developing sustainable agri-enterprises to enhance income, food security, and job creation for rural youths and women. The programme operates across nine Niger Delta states, including Abia, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Ondo (financed by IFAD), as well as Akwa Ibom, Imo, and Rivers (financed by NDDC).

By inaugurating these agricultural projects in Delta State, IFAD and LIFE-ND aim to address the growing number of unemployed youths by creating sustainable jobs and improving food security in the region. This initiative not only empowers individuals but also contributes to the overall economic development of the Niger Delta.

The collaborative efforts of the Federal Government, NDDC, and IFAD in launching these projects demonstrate a strong commitment to transforming the agricultural landscape of the Niger Delta, providing new opportunities for rural communities, and ensuring a more food-secure future for the region.
