The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Delta State Command has announced significant progress in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse throughout 2025. During a press conference on December 12, 2025, at the command’s headquarters in Ogwashi-Uku, State Commander Halilu Hamidu revealed that the agency seized illicit drugs valued at over ₦3 billion from January to December 12, 2025.
Key Seizures
The confiscated substances include:
- 1,750 kg of Cannabis Sativa
- 310.6 grams of Cannabis Sativa seeds
- 224.65 grams of Cocaine
- 32.3 grams of Heroin
- 800.8 grams of Methamphetamine
- 311.9 kg of Tramadol
- Additional quantities of liquid narcotics totaling 714.4 liters
Notable operations included the destruction of over 60.2 hectares of cannabis farms across communities like Emu-Obiogo and Innam-Abbi in Ndokwa West LGA, and a raid on a warehouse at Oko Market in Asaba on December 6, 2025.
Convictions and Prosecutions
The command secured 226 convictions in federal high courts in Asaba and Warri, with 189 cases still pending. These efforts targeted organized drug networks despite challenges in logistics and prosecution.
Rehabilitation and Community Efforts
In addition to enforcement, the NDLEA provided counseling to 704 drug-dependent individuals (480 males and 224 females), with 14 admitted for rehabilitation. Commander Hamidu emphasized the need for greater community collaboration to address rising drug abuse among youth.
