NOSDRA Partners with F1 Team to Fight Oil Spills in Niger Delta

New agreement aims to improve community response to oil spills

The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has teamed up with the local company F1 Team to better handle oil spills in the Niger Delta. This partnership will help quickly alert and involve local communities when oil spills happen.

At the signing event in Abuja, NOSDRA’s Director-General, Chukwuemeka Woke, assured F1 Team of full support in carrying out the agreement. He emphasized that this partnership is crucial for the well-being of the Niger Delta people. Woke also called on oil companies operating in Nigeria to work closely with NOSDRA and F1 Team to ensure swift action during oil spills.

Jude Ndibisi, a consultant, praised Woke for his innovative approach and urged all parties to follow the guidelines set by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) to address oil spills effectively.

In a related development, the Environmental Defenders Network (EDEN) reported a new oil spill from a Shell pipeline along Obololi Creek in Bayelsa State. This spill, which occurred on February 16, is the first in the community’s river, which is the only source of water for the people.

These efforts highlight the ongoing commitment to protecting the Niger Delta environment and the health of its residents.
