A big meeting happened in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to plan how the South-South region can grow better. The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs (OSSAP-SDGs) brought together government people, community groups, schools, businesses, and others. They checked how far we’ve come with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and shared ideas to do more.
Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the President’s adviser on SDGs, sent Dr. Bala Yunusa to speak for her. He said this meeting is important because it includes everyone’s voice. “We want to hear from all kinds of people so Nigeria can show the world what we’re doing right,” he explained. The results will go into a report Nigeria will present at the United Nations in July 2025.
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, represented by Dr. Nsikak Linus Nkan, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, said the state is working hard. “We’ve built new hospitals, helped women get stronger, created jobs, protected our seas, and teamed up with others for progress,” he said. But he added there’s still more to do.
Mrs. Ime David from the Akwa Ibom SDGs office praised the meeting. “This is a chance to share good ideas and work together for a better South-South,” she said. The Uyo meeting is one of many across Nigeria. Others will happen in Enugu, Gombe, Kaduna, and Abuja to make sure the whole country is ready for the UN report.
This is all about making life better in the Niger Delta and beyond. They’re focusing on healthcare, jobs, and keeping our environment clean so no one is left out.
