Good news for students in South-South Nigeria and beyond! Intelsat, a company that runs satellites, and MaxIQ Space, a group that helps with education, are bringing their Africa Space STEM Programme to four countries. This year, 12 schools in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Senegal will join the programme.

This is the fifth year of the programme, and it’s all about teaching students science and technology. They will use special kits to learn about space, how to care for the environment, and smart tech like the internet of things (IoT). Experts will visit schools to teach, and students will get hands-on training.

The goal is to help thousands of students gain skills for jobs in science and technology. Rhys Morgan from Intelsat says they want to inspire young people. “We work with satellites, and we’re happy to help African students learn about space and get ready for the future,” he said.

Judi Sandrock from MaxIQ Space agrees. “Africa is becoming important for space projects. We need to train our young people now so they can lead tomorrow,” she said. This programme will help students in places like the Niger Delta prepare for big opportunities.

Schools in Nigeria can apply to join this free programme. The deadline is March 31, 2025. If you want to find out how this will change lives and bring new skills to our region, subscribe here to stay updated with development sttories from the Niger Delta region on https://nigerdeltaherald.ng/.
